Do hospital emergency rooms have to offer a translator before performing services?
My husband is from a foreign country and does not understand the english lang. very well yet. Over the past few months, he has visited 2 different emergency rooms in Florida, not understanding the monetary consequences of doing so. He was never offered a translator at either place. When the bills arrived, he called about making payments, and was not offered a translator then either. He had understood the process wrong and now his accounts have been sent to collection, which mean they have to be paid in full or they go on his credit history. I'm wondering if there is anything that can be done since there was such a language barrier and they seem to have not clearly explained procedures and services they needed to perform. Please, any info will be helpful as to what can be done now.
