Getting rid of the pacifier...help!!!?

My 15 month old twins are sooo attached to their pacifier. They have to be in their mouths in order for them to sleep. If they wake up without it, then they wake me up and I have to run in to give it to them. I always said that I would never be one of those moms who give their kids a pacifier just to make her life easier. Well guess what...I have. The pacifier has truely saved my sanity, but now it is time for it to go. They are so young so I can't say that the pacifier fairy came to get it or anything. Should I just take it away cold turkey...or should I wein them off it....help me. Any suggestions would be great!
